Student opportunities and activities

Sporting opportunities

Students have the opportunity to participate in different sports as part of the PDHPE curriculum.

Students may also be selected to participate in sporting activities offered by The School Sport Unit, including Boccia, Come and Try Athletics, Multi-Sport days and Tenpin Bowling.

Creative and performing arts

Visiting performers are a part of the school’s educational program and linked to student and curriculum outcomes.

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.

Community access

The school has access to two school buses acquired through Variety the Children's Charity, Friends of Newcastle Middle Special School and various grant applications.

These vehicles allow us to take large and small groups into the community to support a range of Key Learning Areas and class programs.

Students access the community for shopping and living skills, curriculum based practical experiences, sporting activities, special events and excursions.

Food technology

Newcastle Middle School is fortunate to have a teaching kitchen where students experience a range of opportunities in weekly class cooking programs to develop their taste repertoire, food preparation and independent living skills.

Aquatic / swimming sessions

Newcastle Middle School has an indoor heated pool with mobility access via a railed ramp and hoist. Classes access the pool as part of their PDHPE program. This promotes water safety skills, physical activity and personal care routines.

Permission notes to use the pool must be received prior to students accessing the pool.
